Kettle Valley Rail line Bike Ride from Penticton to Princeton September 2006

and for a great map of where we went http://www.planet.eon.net/%7edan/map.html
We are organizing enough vehicles
to transport all our Vancouver, Victoria and Sunshine Coast riders from
Princeton to Penticton. You will be leaving your vehicles in the parking lot of
the Valley First Credit Union branch. The Branch is located on the Highway just
before the bridge at the east end of Princeton. You can't miss it. Please get
back to me with your estimated time of arrival to Princeton. We will transport
you, gear and bikes to Penticton. It is about an hour drive from Princeton to
Penticton.
The gang assembles at Brett and Nonee in Penticton after been ferried from Princeton
Saturday September 16
9:00 - 8:30 AM - Meet at the Cornell's for a continental breakfast and to
prepare your lunches for the day. Extra gear loaded into the support vehicle.
You will need to only pack your lunch and water for the day. We will be able to
meet up with the support vehicles at a number of places along the trail for
extra water.

A great breakfast and then pack your lunch, this is all very well organized.
9:30 - 9:45 AM - Depart for Summerland and the south terminus of the Kettle Valley Railway. Approximately 15 kilometre ride. Planning for a 60 to 75 minutes travel time. This is the steepest part of the trip. The trail is quite sandy in place so it will give your legs a good work out. Great views of Okanagan Lake. We will cross the Trout Creek trestle to the station. One of the highest trestles on the KVR. Not to worry, the trestle has a nice walkway built over it with a great view from the middle.

11:00 - 11:15 AM - The steam train will arrive by about 11:00 AM and load us about 11:15. I think we will appreciate this portion of the trip after a few hours on the trail.

12:00 PM - Arrive to the main
station for the Kettle Valley Railway. The entrance to the trail is just next
door to the station. Next stop Osprey Lake, 45 kilometers away.

From our experience, we expect it to take the fitter riders about 4 hours to complete the ride with us slower ones taking 5 hours or so.

Strange Bedfellows
7:00 PM - Dinner is served at Osprey Lake. We are planning to barbecue steaks, bake potatoes, and a toss a green salad. Wines and beers will be available. We will be happy to pack any special dietary foods. Just let us know if you would like something else for dinner.
Great Music by Bob, doing Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Valdy extremely well
I hear a ghost train a coming
9:00 PM - Fire lit, and marshmallows to roast. More wine and beer if desired. Lots of laughs.
Bill S gets bagged half done the ride
Osprey Lake in the morn
Sunday September 17
8:00 - 9:OO AM - Breakfast served. Pancakes, juice and coffee. Prepare light
snack for the trip.
The kitchen was a real blur just like the picture
9:30 AM - Depart for Princeton 50 kilometers away. I expect the ride to take between 4 and five hours including a stop for lunch. We have not done any of this part of the route. It is all down hill. Ya right :)

We all recommend this accommodation at Osprey Lake
