Union Bank of Estonia's LONWORKS Based System Named 'Best Automation Project of the Year' Echelon Brings Networking to Everyday Devices Worldwide

(contemporary Palo Alto, CA - March 20, 2000) - Echelon (NASDAQ: ELON) today announced that the Estonian Systems Engineering Society (ESIS) has named the new Union Bank of Estonia office building, and its LONWORKS® based control network, the "Best Automation Project of Year 2000."

ESIS stated that the control system represents the best example of a building automation application in the market. Ecomatic, Ltd., an Echelon Authorized Network Integrator, coordinated the automation system. "The LONWORKS network was our first choice for this project, as it offered the most flexible, simple and reliable solution,'' stated Vaino Parnaste, President of Ecomatic, Ltd. "Because it is an open, interoperable standard, the LONWORKS system allows us to expand and modify the Union Bank of Estonia's system as needed into the future. Ecomatic is committed to bringing Estonia the best, most sophisticated automation solutions available, and we rely on Echelon and LONMARK® certified products to provide us with the infrastructure necessary to accomplish this goal. This award acknowledges that we've selected the right infrastructure."
