Department Of Energy and Lighting Industry Leaders To Unveil Landmark Effort That Charts Course Of Industry in the 21st Century

NEMA MEDIA ADVISORY -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, March 23, 2000 

WHAT: On March 29th, 2000, the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs (BTS) will unveil the results of a two year strategic effort between the U.S. lighting industry and the BTS called Vision 2020: The Lighting Industry Roadmap, which details how new advanced lighting technology can meet the demands of tomorrow's commercial buildings and the needs of those who design, build, own, and occupy them.

In conjunction with this public release of Vision 2020: the Lighting Industry Roadmap, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History will be opening a new gallery in it's Lighting a Revolution exhibit. Lighting a Revolution, supported by BTS, brings to life American know-how, innovation, and invention and provides visitors with a better understanding of how the process of invention has changed and how consideration of energy efficiency has become a major determining factor for lighting systems.

Reliable Controls Top representatives from the Smithsonian and the lighting industry will share their insights into how lighting technology will continue to enhance the way we live and work. David Edison Sloane, author, University of New Haven professor, and great grandson of Thomas Edison, will also be available to discuss Edison's revolutionary ideas on energy and the environment, taken from family memoirs.

Founded in 1926 and headquartered near Washington, D.C., its 500 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. Annual shipments of these products total $100 billion.
