JOHNSON CONTROLS ACQUIRES ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS USA

MILWAUKEE — January 5, 2000 — Johnson Controls, Inc. has acquired Electronic Systems USA (ESUSA) of Louisville, Ky. ESUSA is considered the leader in multivendor building automation products and repair services. ESUSA’s specialty is combining legacy building automation system components from multiple vendors into a seamless integrated system.

ESUSA’s systems products include the NexSys^® family of LON-based building controls and the Unity^® workstation, which helps integrate NexSys with many brands of building automation systems.

Johnson Controls, Inc., is a global market leader in automotive systems and facility management and control. In the automotive market, it is a major supplier of seating and interior systems and batteries. For nonresidential facilities, Johnson Controls provides building control systems and services, energy management and integrated facility management. Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), founded in 1885, has headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its sales for 1999 totaled $16.1 billion.
