Invensys Controls Joins OSGI

February 23, 2000, Richmond, Virginia - Invensys Controls Chief Executive Rod Powell today announced that Invensys has joined the Open Services Gateway Initiative OSGi).

"As the global leader in home and business automation, we believe that OSGi's commitment to open protocols will play a major role in the networking of smart homes and businesses of the future," Powell said. "As a result, Invensys is proud to become a member, reflecting our commitment to removing barriers to networking, and to making the broad range of appliances and devices that are controlled by the wide array of products that we make fully network capable."

The San Ramon, Calif., USA-based consortium comprises 33 member organizations from around the globe. Membership is open to any interested party, including Internet Service Providers, Network Operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Independent Software Vendors, end users, academic institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Invensys Building Systems, Inc. is Announced

February 7, 2000 Dallas, Texas -- A new name and corporate image for Invensys Building Systems was displayed for the first time at AHR Expo 2000. Invensys Building Systems, Inc., as it is now known, has replaced its previous identity of Siebe Intelligent Building Systems. Invensys Building Systems, Inc. is the new legal name for the former Barber-Colman Company. This new identity provides alignment with the overall Invensys corporate strategy for long-term brand name leveraging throughout the company's customer base.

Invensys, the new name, has its roots in invention, innovation and systems, clearly emphasizing the company's focus on world class technologies providing intelligent solutions for global markets.

The new identity Invensys Building Systems, reflects a vision of being able to incorporate all Invensys products and services into commercial control systems and retains the concept of Intelligent Automation, focused toward the building environment. It also represents Invensys' overall strategy for brand name leveraging better than the previous identity of Siebe Environmental Controls.

"Access" Control Extends the I/A Series® Intelligent Automation System

February 7, 2000 Dallas, Texas -- Invensys Building Systems Access control is unveiled at AHR Expo 2000. Building on the company's extensive background in single seat control for commercial buildings and mechanical systems, Invensys now offers a fully compatible access system as part of an open interoperable, scalable I/A Series Intelligent Automation System. MicroNet Access Control delivers the ability to manage and control traffic in buildings or sections of buildings. These LONWORK compliant controllers and configuration tools not only give you control of ingress and egress, but also allow for the collection of data to help monitor and control access to your facility. Automated sequences, anti-passback, duress signaling, escort processing, scheduling, real-time monitoring, door-lock strike, turnstile exit control and extended access for the physically challenged are provided by the new MicroNet Access.

February 7, 2000 Dallas, Texas -- Invensys Building Systems unveiled its new DuraDrive line of actuators at AHR Expo 2000. Designed for damper and valve applications, the Duradrive line provides the industry's most complete range of spring return and non-spring return actuators with two-position, floating, and proportional control and output torque ranges from 35 to 300 lb-in. (4 to 34 N-m).

DuraDrive actuators harness the most recent advancements in motor design and patented control technologies, gear production methods, assembly techniques, and quality control methods (taken from the automotive and aircraft industries) to ensure that a consistently superior product is shipped every time. In addition to their many performance advantages, DuraDrive actuators offer maximum power with high accuracy, increased durability and longer service, backed by an industry-leading unconditional 5-year warranty.

Announces Boiler Boss Universal Boiler Reset Controls and Injection Pump and Valve Mixing Controls

February 7, 2000, Erie Controls, a member of the newly named Invensys Building Systems, introduced their Boiler Boss control systems at AHR Expo 2000.

The System 1200 provides reset of any boiler based on outdoor temperature. The control features "dry contacts" that can be wired in series with all existing safety controls. The System 1200 also has a priority input feature that bypasses the reset mode, and allows the boiler to convert all of its heating capacity over to heating domestic hot water.

The System 3000 Injection Pump Mixing Control and System 3600 Valve Mixing Control provide closed loop control of water temperature in the secondary loop of a hydronic heating system through the use of a pump or an accurate control proportional valve. Each control features a built in transformer and relays, "real data" inputs, an LED information center, and onboard diagnostics.

Introduces its Full Line of Linked Valve Assemblies with DuraDrive™ Actuators

February 7, 2000, Dallas, Texas -- Invensys Building Systems introduced its new, complete line of linked valve assemblies featuring their brand new DuraDrive actuator at AHR Expo 2000. The Invensys linked valve assembly offering includes ball and globe valve configurations providing flexibility to meet thousands of hot water, chilled water, and steam applications.

Ball valve and globe valve assemblies consist of the new DuraDrive actuator, in two-position, floating, or proportional spring return and non-spring return models, mounted on ½ to 2 inch two-way and three-way valve bodies using specially designed linkages.

In addition to utilizing the new DuraDrive actuator, both linked valve assembly types come packed with features including stainless steel ball & stem as standard, robust structural steel mounting brackets, improved thermal isolation, and up to 40% greater breakaway and seating torque.

Expands Line of I/A Series® MicroNet Controllers 

February 7, 2000, Dallas, Texas -- Invensys Building Systems introduced the latest additions to their extensive line of LONMARK® and LONWORKS® controllers at AHR Expo 2000. The MN 50/150 and 800 controllers were demonstrated at booth 1002. The MN 50/150 LONMARK controllers expand the capabilities of the I/A Series to meet a wider range of unique applications and provide a cost effective robust solution set when multiple controllers, working in tandem to perform a sequence of control, are required.

The MN 800 Series controller further expands the MicroNet family by providing a fully programmable, LONWORKS compliant, high-density controller offering up to 40 digital inputs along with clock and calendar functions. The MN 800 brings high performance distributed control capabilities to the I/A Series MicroNet controller offering.

Applications for the MicroNet Controllers can easily be created, replicated, enhanced, and downloaded using the standard Visio® object based programming tool, WorkPlace Tech, part of the Wonderware® Software for Intelligent Buildings suite.

Now with these additions, the MicroNet family of controllers is the most flexible, application robust line on the market.

Announces PopTopTM Motorized Valves

February 7, 2000, Dallas, Texas -- Erie Controls a member of the newly named Invensys Building Systems introduces the PopTopTM Valves. As shown at AHR Expo 2000, the Modulating PopTop Temperature Control Valve provides solutions for many chilled water, hot water, or steam applications. The Modulating PopTop is compatible with most leading DDC control systems, and is available in a variety of control signal configurations. The three-wire floating actuator offers a time-out option, and the proportional actuator allows for 0-10VDC or 4-20mA control.

Also exhibited at the show, the PopTop HCO Motorized Valve offers 100% shut-off ratings two times the industry standard for two-position spring-return valves. The Erie PopTop HCO valve is available up to 75 psi, normally open or normally closed, with bodies 1/2" to 1 -1/4". Versatile, the HCO is interchangeable with the General Close-Off PopTopTM, which is the design standard for fan coil and zone control in North America.

The unique PopTopTM design allows for quick, single-handed installation and easy push-button release of the actuator. The PopTop's compact size and ease of installation provide reliability at a low installed cost . Erie Controls' full line of valves are available in a wide range of styles and sizes to fit most hydronic applications.

Introduces I/A Series Wonderware® Software for Intelligent Buildings at AHR Expo 2000

February 7, 2000, Dallas, Texas -- Invensys Building Systems demonstrated the proficiency of the I/A Series® Wonderware Software for Intelligent Buildings at AHR Expo 2000. Based on Wonderware InTouch® , the industrial process industry's leading human machine interface, this software provides single seat monitoring and control of facilities. From the User Interface and Engineering Tools to Control Devices and Field Devices, these solutions meet the extensive needs of today's building owners and managers. The three CD suite provides all the power required to design, engineer, develop and monitor building automation systems. It is the industry's most technologically advanced, open, interoperable system on the market today and features Microsoft NT® operating system and compatibility with the widest variety of third party building systems for monitoring and control of all building systems, from elevators and lights to access and energy use. Sanctioned EnergyStar Ally

January 2000, Rockford, IL--The United States Environmental Protection Agency has sanctioned Invensys Building Systems as an EnergyStar Buildings Ally. This designation recognizes that Invensys is committed to conserving energy in its manufacturing facility as an EnergyStar Building Partner.

As an EnergyStar ally, Invensys also helps other businesses achieve EnergyStar Building Partner status through the application of Invensys Building Systems' products and services. Under the EnergyStar Buildings Program, the EPA encourages US businesses and institutions to reduce fossil fuel pollution by conserving energy in their facilities. Participants agree to tune up their buildings to the extent that conservation projects are economically justified. The methodology follows a five-step energy cost reduction strategy that addresses lighting, building tune-up, energy management strategy, fan sizing, and air-conditioning plant improvements. Participants incorporate the Energy Star Logo in recognition of their participation.

Control Solutions, Inc Provides Virtually Free Building Upgrade for University Campus

January 2000, Rockford, IL-- Invensys Building Systems is completing a $1.5 million Performance Contract for Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. Freed Hardeman University is a private, coed, Christian University that provides a Liberal Arts Curriculum. From its founding in 1869 as a teachers college, it has grown to its current enrollment of 1,733 students.

Under the terms of the Performance Contract, Invensys installed a campus-wide, energy management system, and numerous facility upgrades. Funding for this project was generated through energy savings garnered from lighting upgrades, HVAC redesign, and building scheduling through the Invensys NETWORK 8000TM energy management system. Under the terms of the agreement, Invensys guarantees that Freed Hardeman University will recover the cost of these upgrades over the next ten years from savings or Invensys will refund the difference.
