TUNE IN TO WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY BENEFITS WITH SONTAY'S NEW RP SENSORS

Marking another significant breakthrough in controls technology, Sontay has launched the first ever range of radio controlled room sensors purpose designed for commercial and industrial building control systems. Incorporating both temperature and combined humidity / temperature sensors, the new RP series allows up to 32 separate sensor parameters to be sent via radio transmission to any type of HVAC controller, eliminating the need for costly and / or impractical wiring connections.

Sontay's new RP series can provide a cost effective, 'wireless' sensor solution in new, refurbishment and retrofit applications. These include projects where it is either too expensive or undesirable to disrupt the existing building fabric for wiring eg, museums and heritage organisations or offices with a high churn rate. Alternatively, the technology can bring dramatic cost savings in applications where a number of remote buildings need to be brought under central HVAC control, such as, schools or building complexes.

The RP series utilises Sontay's experience in temperature and humidity sensor technology to deliver many years of accurate and reliable operation. Powered with a standard 9V battery, giving a lifetime of up to 2 years, RP sensor types are available for the measurement of temperature and humidity, as well as set-point adjustment and override functions.

Further details on the RP range are available from Sontay www.sontay.com. The company is developing its next generation LonWorks-compatible RP products which will soon available. Based in Edenbridge, Kent, Sontay manufactures and markets a fully comprehensive range of control and environmental measurement products for building and process control applications in the UK and worldwide.

ABB OFFERS MOST EFFICIENT AND FASTEST LOW-HORSEPOWER DRIVE FOR INDUSTRIAL AND HVAC APPLICATIONS

ABB ACS 140 driveHighly Reliable ACS 140 Drive Saves Cost, Increases Flexibility, And Delivers More Features Than Other Drives In Its Class

NEW BERLIN, Wis., February, 2001 - All the key functions and features typical of large-horsepower drives are packaged inside the extremely compact, efficient ABB ACS 140 drive - ideal for industrial and HVAC applications that require highly reliable, efficient motor operation. Able to respond to input signal changes in as little as eight (8) milliseconds - one of the fastest in the industry -- the drive covers a ½ - 3 HP range, in a 200-240 VAC single- and three-phase configuration; and in a 380-480 VAC three-phase construction. The drive's unique thermal design also optimizes convection, so that a cooling fan is not required, saving initial investment costs and extending product life.

Reliability Year-In-And-Out -- Without the need for a cooling fan, the ACS 140 can be mounted using its standard DIN rail, or as a wall or flange mount (an optional NEMA 1 enclosure kit is also available). Flange mounting permits the drive to be mounted on the back panel of an enclosure with the heatsink outside the panel, thus reducing the enclosure surface area required to dissipate heat. The optimized cooling design also allows drives to be mounted adjacent to each other, without the panel space traditionally required for heat dissipation. A low parts count further increases the drive's reliability.

Flexible Control; Programming -- In addition to local motor control through the ACS 140 drive's panel, built-in ModBus serial communications makes it easy to connect the drive to centralized control systems. Additional built-in features include PID (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) setpoint control, seven (7) preset speeds, IR compensation, V slip compensation, two programmable relay outputs, two analog inputs that may be set for voltage or current input, flying start into a spinning motor, and a programmable analog output -- all as standard.

Seven application macros permit users to easily select a preset pattern of parameter values and I/O configurations. If none of the seven macros are suitable, the user can tailor parameter values and I/O configurations to suit specific application needs.   See website at www.abb-drives.com for more information.
