Smart Home Technology Leader Intelli Selects Coactive Networks Internet Gateways

Emergency Lighting Service Built on Coactive Connector® Gateway

SAUSALITO, CA, -- September 11, 2000 -- Coactive Networks, the leading provider of gateways for connecting the Internet to all devices in homes and businesses, today announced it has won an exclusive contract with Intelli, as the sole supplier of gateway solutions for delivering web-based emergency lighting control. Intelli, which originated as the Smarthouse Project at Telenor, Norway's leading telecom and communications company, offers smart-home technology-based solutions to both consumer and commercial markets.

Reliable Controls Using the Coactive Connector(R) 1000 Series gateway, Intelli's Internet-based solution for controlling emergency lighting streamlines and automates testing, monitoring and reporting activities. System status, test results, logs, and reports can all be viewed from the web, while error notifications and alarms can be received by e-mail or as an alert on a wireless phone. The market for this solution is particularly strong since recent Norwegian legislation requires that all emergency lighting, from the light tubes to the battery backup, be tested regularly and that each building maintain a historical log of all activity.

Currently, there are 80,000 commercial buildings in Norway, and many of these still manually maintain their emergency lighting equipment. Intelli, with Coactive, is the first and only company to offer an integrated solution that routinely tests emergency lighting, automatically sending alerts when a problem is detected and producing detailed reports, without requiring costly and time-consuming on-site inspections.

"Recent Norwegian legislation has spurred the demand by commercial building owners for an automated and intelligent testing and reporting mechanism," said Elling Nygaard, Managing Director of Intelli. "By choosing Coactive, Intelli was able to immediately offer an integrated, full-service emergency lighting solution to a market bursting with customers and void of competitors. All in all, it's a fantastic business opportunity."

David Gaw, president of Coactive Networks, added, "From a technical standpoint, this is a perfect example of the breadth of applications that are being revolutionized by the telemetry gateway. Together, Coactive and Intelli offer a cost-effective solution for the building owner, while at the same time establishing a powerful Internet platform for future automation and maintenance applications in businesses and homes alike."

Intelli represents Coactive's latest major customer win in the Scandinavian countries. Earlier this year, Coactive began the world's first large-scale deployment of residential gateways to a half million homes in Sweden.

About Intelli Intelli provides a Smart-home platform that enables users to communicate with their own homes or offices through the Internet, to control and access information from internally networked electric and electronic equipment. This platform is based upon open and international standards for telecommunication, internal home networking and Internet technology. Intelli, in cooperation with other service providers, also offers a wide range of Smart-home applications that include energy control and metering systems, emergency lighting systems, heating control, alarm and notification, electrical device control systems, and care solutions. The Intelli platform is designed with full modularity, giving the individual user maximum flexibility.
