People keep asking me:
“What the heck is RDF?”
Instead of another explanation, try it.
1. Download this Turtle file 🐢
Option A: as a file
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QXFq27eWACEK7at7NM-KC5Eybc_V-GZO/view?usp=sharing
Option B: as a Google Document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/19yDu5q-g-CuVClFIFJNnGm6FtV9ktEO_UCtVr6BSLhY/edit?usp=sharing
It may look scary when you open it.
Don’t worry. You don’t even need to read it.
It is simply a text file describing some building objects and, more importantly, their relationships.
It is not a BIM or CAD file (that comes later)
2. Give it to your favorite AI
ChatGPT. Claude. Gemini directly in the Google Doc. Whatever you use.
No BIM software.
No digital twin platform.
No RDF experience.
No coding.
3. Ask it this
Question 1:
Find AHU-1. Tell me where it is and what it is connected to. Trace the path from AHU-1 to a room. Show me the objects and relationships that support your answer. If the evidence stops, tell me where.
Question 2:
What rooms does AHU-1 serve ?
That’s it.
You just had a conversation with a building data.
This is a deliberately small example: a few hundred objects and a few thousand relationships.
But the idea is the important part.
When the relationships in a building are explicit and machine-readable, AI doesn’t have to guess nearly as much about what connects to what.
And the same idea can extend to a much larger building graph.
You don’t need to understand Turtle to start.
Download it.
Give it to AI.
Ask the building a question.
Then send me what your AI says.
If it gets it wrong, I want to see that too.
4. If you want to see the floor plan as a BIM or Digital Twin of the same building:
Go here: https://bim-genie.com/re1.html
Point to one of the rooms. Tell us what is going on:
Room is hot.
I cannot find AHU-1
etc.
Now you are chatting with the BIM.
Power to the Turtle! 🐢
