By Bill Lydon, Automation.com
There were a number of new and interesting building automation products demonstrated at AHR Expo 2010. This is a review of the products that caught my interest. My areas of product interest included energy conservation, alternative energy, and sustainability. Not surprisingly, hundreds of exhibitors were featuring energy-efficient solutions.

Review and Highlights from 2010 AHR Expo
By Bill Lydon, Automation.com
The 2010 AHR Expo held on January 25-27, 2010 in Orlando Florida was a busy event. Exhibitors and attendees were upbeat but cautious about the economy. Major areas of interest included energy conservation, government stimulus, alternative energy, and sustainability. Not surprisingly, hundreds of exhibitors were featuring energy-efficient solutions and there were a variety of educational sessions on that topic.

FutureDash Corp., an innovative start-up business-to-business (B2B) software company, announces today that GreenDash™, a new software product allowing manufacturers of consumer networking and electronics equipment to quickly and easily add real-time energy monitoring capabilities to their products, now integrates with Google PowerMeter using the newly announced Google PowerMeter API.

The North American building automation market is expected to grow slightly over the next few years with virtually no growth from new building construction

Links to these and other related events, including NAB and InfoComm2010 are available at www.LyleBunn.com - Events. During the week of April 11-15 there are 4 separate Digital Signage related events in Las Vegas. Perhaps I will see you there !

Researchers Study Demand-Responsive Dimmable Lighting

To reduce peak demand with lighting, we can turn it off, turn it down or use it more efficiently. Since lighting is critical for productivity and safety in many indoor spaces, turning it down instead of off is usually more desirable. Dimmable lighting therefore has a strong potential role to play in demand response.

But how low can we go? How much energy ca be saved?

Typical levels of automatic dimming, occurring in strategies such as a daylight harvesting, are unlikely to be noticed or found irritable by occupants. Researchers at NRC-IRC put this notion to the test, conducting a study to determine how far, how fast and over what period lighting can be dimmed before occupants notice and are adversely affected.
