Control Solutions, Inc

Richmond, VA July 2006 – Tridium’s Niagara Appliance® was recognized as a critical component of the Value Chain created by Vulcain Inc.’s Smart Gas Detection System at M2M Magazine’s Value Chain Awards in the Energy/Utility category. Vulcain and its technology enablers were awarded a Bronze Award during the2006 M2M United Conference in San Antonio, TX.

Vulcain, a leader in the gas detection and air monitoring industry, manufacturers a comprehensive line of gas detection networks and a broad array of stand-alone gas monitors. Vulcain used Tridium’s Niagara Appliance as the core technology to develop a “smart gas detection system”.

A Niagara Appliance is a complete Device-to-Enterprise solution for equipment manufacturers.

The solution provides an integrated bundle of hardware and software designed to make a device or equipment system fully web and Internet enabled and “smart”. It allows manufacturers to configure and manage equipment remotely and connect to other systems and applications, thereby lowering costs and enabling next generation service offerings such as predictive maintenance, performance analysis and comprehensive reporting.

Vulcain Smart Gas Detection System provides real world benefits to systems integrators and installers including:

Building owners also benefit from the value chain solution:

In addition to Tridium, two other organizations played key roles in the Value Chain. Cochrane Supply and Engineering, a Tridium-trained systems integrator and building controls distributor, acted as the lead behind the development of the application. Controls Group North America (CGNA), a consortium of distributors and suppliers of control systems and devices serving the industrial, residential and commercial markets, is marketing and distributing the smart gas detection system.

“The M2M Value Chain awards recognize that solutions are not created in a vacuum – that many people and organizations are involved in developing a successful solution,” said Marc Petock, Tridium’s Director of Marketing. “Partnering with organizations like Vulcain, Cochrane Supply and CGNA allows each company to focus on its core competency and provides end users with better solutions.”

The Value Chain Awards honor the most successful adopters of M2M technology and their enablers, the teams of solution providers that made their successes possible. The awards highlight the process of effectively combining multiple technologies, such as device-connectivity hardware, radio modules, network service and provision, as well as application software and infrastructure.

“Companies like Vulcain and Tridium are being recognized for continually striving for innovation each and every day,” said Michael Jarosik, editor of M2M magazine. “They are quickly becoming the most prominent adopters in the machine-to-machine space and deserve the recognition they have received with this award.”

The Value Chain Award winners were chosen by a group of industry analysts along with the editors of M2M magazine. The awards show how all of the elements of the M2M value chain create a winning solution for the end customer.
