Calico Energy Services Announces Partnership with EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Program

SEATTLE, WA — August 16, 2010 — Calico Energy Services – (www.calicoenergy.com), the market leader in smart grid data management solutions and services for utilities and power providers, today announced a fundamental commitment to protect the environment by becoming an ENERGY STAR partner. Calico, through its voluntary partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Program, will work with utilities and building managers to improve the energy efficiency of large commercial properties.

Calico’s Green Certification™ software – a module in its Energy Intelligence Suite™ energy management platform – is driving widespread commercial adoption of ENERGY STAR. To date, more than 300 million square feet of commercial building space has been measured and submitted to ENERGY STAR using the product.

Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), a large utility in the Chicago area, has been a live user of Calico’s Green Certification module for more than two years and has received awards from both the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) and the EPA for their building energy usage program.

Green Certification is available throughout the U.S. as a low-cost, subscription-based software service. It is the first and only energy management solution designed specifically to facilitate the submission of building-wide energy usage data to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, the program’s interactive energy management tool. Green Certification has been proven to reduce the time and associated cost required to measure whole building energy usage for ENERGY STAR by more than 95 percent.

Products and buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. In 2007, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.
