Constellation NewEnergy rolls out new online Demand Response tool in PJM region

Innovative web platform that enables customers in demand response programs to maximize their energy consumption and transform it into new revenue

Constellation Energy’s (NYSE:CEG) subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy (CNE), is offering its VirtuaWattTM web platform to customers participating in demand response programs in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest-based PJM market. VirtuaWattTM is an online demand response auction application, which enables customers to monitor, schedule and track electricity load reductions to optimize the economic benefits of demand response participation.

Demand response programs represent a new stream of revenue for participating customers in the form of recurring availability payments simply for committing capacity to the program, as well as an energy utilization payment for reducing usage at times of peak demand.

VirtuaWattTM includes a user-friendly interface that is directly connected to CNE and the Independent System Operator, which enables customers to nominate load on an hourly basis and informs them if they have been awarded and/or called for a demand response event. VirtuaWattTM further allows customers to bid on both load and prices into the day ahead and real time markets. By empowering customers to track what has been nominated, awarded and accepted, it also gives customers the freedom to select their market auction, the region they wish to bid into and target the accounts that are located in that region. With the ability to bid up to seven days into the future, customers can use VirtuaWattTM to review historical bids and evaluate baseline energy consumption as a reference in planning future load reductions.

VirtuaWatt TM is the newest addition to CNE’s demand response technologies, which are offered through its suite of sustainable energy solutions that also includes renewable energy certificates and carbon footprinting services.
