Companies Collaborate to Provide Automated Continuous Commissioning Software and Strategic Sustainability Advisory Services

December 15, 2009 – Berkeley, Calif. – Scientific Conservation Inc. (SCI), the industry leader in Automated Continuous Commissioning (ACC) software, today announced a strategic alliance with Natural Logic, Inc., “strategic advisors to the sustainable economy.” As a result of today’s alliance, the companies will offer joint customers a comprehensive and measurable sustainability plan that incorporates Scientific Conservation’s SCIwatch,™ the industry’s first ACC software platform for the $5 billion commercial building market, with Natural Logic’s value added advisory services that leverage business process automation software.

A key aspect of the Scientific Conservation/Natural Logic alliance is a joint recognition that facilities must be able to measure sustainability project successes and determine where the bottlenecks exist in their business processes. SCIwatch provides this capability.

“Scientific Conservation’s SCIwatch is one of the most innovative technologies to be introduced into the energy efficiency market in years,” said Gil Friend, CEO of Natural Logic, and author of The Truth About Green Business (FT Press, 2009). “The solution’s ability to detect electrical, mechanical and HVAC system faults in commercial buildings long before they have a negative impact on energy spend, or require significant maintenance costs to correct the problem, aligns with Natural Logic’s mission to help our clients achieve optimal operational performance, continuously.”

As founder, president and CEO of Natural Logic, Friend combines extensive business and content experience spanning strategy, systems ecology, economic development, management cybernetics, and public policy. Tomorrow Magazine called him, “One of the country’s leading environmental management consultants—a real expert who combines theoretical sophistication with hands-on, in-the-trenches know-how.”

He is a founding board member of the Sustainable Business Alliance, the California Sustainable Business Council, and Internet pioneer of the Institute for Global Communications, and was co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, one of the nation's leading urban ecology and economic development “think-and-do tanks,” where he pioneered the “green roof” trend more than 30 years ago.

“The opportunity to partner with Natural Logic is a strategic coup,” said David Wolins, CEO of Scientific Conservation. “Gil and his team provide superior guidance for those businesses that are committed to pursuing sustainability initiatives, and they have the success record to back it up. We fully expect this alliance will result in a significant increase in joint customers. Together with Natural Logic’s offerings, SCIwatch has yet another industry leading Partner to extend the vision of ACC.”

“Natural Logic has a unique approach to the sustainability market,” according to Chip Pieper, vice president of business development at Scientific Conservation and a veteran of the software industry. “They distinguish themselves in the market by leveraging business process improvement and business process automation software (BPMS) to enhance their strategic services. As the facilities business becomes more tightly integrated with the enterprise at a software level, BPMS will be an integral and essential piece of this optimized solution.”
