BOSTON – July 11, 2006 – Eisai Research Institute, a U.S. pharmaceutical company, through a general contractor, has awarded a $1.5 million contract for integrated building automation and security systems at their new Research Center in Andover, Mass., to TAC, a world leader in building automation, security systems and energy solutions. The Boston-based Systems Integration division of TAC won the contract and will install the systems.

Eisai Inc., based in Teaneck, N. J., is the U.S. pharmaceutical subsidiary of Tokyo-based Eisai Co. Ltd., with sales of more than $1.7 billion in 2003. The Eisai Research Institute, which will expand existing operations into the new building, conducts discovery research on complex synthetic and organic chemical compounds. Accordingly, more than 60 percent of the new 150,000-square foot facility will be dedicated to research laboratories.

The building automation system (BAS) project includes an integrated laboratory airflow control system comprising more than 150 venturi type air valves, 75 fume hood controllers and 350 traditional VAVs. In addition to the integration of TAC’s Andover Continuum® for the BAS and security operations, the new building includes seven direct digital controlled air handlers, two chillers, two cooling towers and four boilers, all of which will be controlled via BACnet® interfaced to Andover Continuum.

“The highly flexible Andover Continuum software enabled our team to propose a unique workable solution,” said David Berardi, vice president Systems Integration-East, TAC. “Amongst the four final bidders, TAC won the project based on our technical expertise, service record and ability to integrate a complete building management system, combining the building infrastructure, laboratory and security systems.”

Commissioning work on Eisai’s integrated building management system began in June 2006, with completion scheduled for September 2006.
