Sessions to focus on end-user value; economic development and job creation; standards; environmental impact; CyberSecurity and more

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 23, 2009) – In a year of dramatic advances in smart grid initiatives and funding, including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s $4.5 billion for smart grid-related projects, GridWeek™ 2009 (www.gridweek.com) is expanding both the range and breadth of its programs. This 4-day conference, taking place September 21 – 24 in Washington, D.C., will explore the industry’s latest and most pressing issues including: new smart grid implementations; integrating renewable energy; understanding end-user perspectives; exploring new business models; improving operational efficiencies; reducing carbon emissions, among others.

Produced by Clasma Events, this year’s conference programs, keynotes and plenary sessions, including an International Smart Grid Summit on Monday, September 21, center around how the smart grid is energizing the economy. Session topics include:

• Standards: Help or Hindrance in Smart Grid Deployment • Cybersecurity: Dealing with Your Smart Grid Insecurities • Making the Business Case: Quantifying a Vision • End-User Value: From Promise to Reality • Environmental Impact: Is a Smarter Grid a Greener Grid?
• Microgrids: Building Smart Grids, One Community at a Time • End-User Perspectives: Do Utilities Truly Understand Future Customers?
• Storage & Renewables: Beyond Green, Game-changing Power Storage and Production • Business Models: Creating Innovative Businesses Around the Energy Internet

“Now in its third year, GridWeek has become the meeting place of choice for the entire smart grid industry,” said Anto Budiardjo, president and CEO of Clasma Events. “This year’s conference will bring together consumers, NGOs, local governments, the financial community, utility executives, technology and service companies, and environmental groups for influential, timely discussions on pressing smart grid issues.”

GridWeek 2009 is being organized by Clasma Events Inc. in partnership with the Department of Energy and the GridWise Alliance, with platinum sponsor support from ABB, Cisco, Elster, General Electric, IBM and Itron.
