What caused that 12 hour demand bump on 90% of weekends?

Berkeley CA, 13 Jun 2011: EnergyAi™ announced the release today of a new version of its meter data mining service. The analysis identifies energy savings opportunities in commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings from meter data readily available from utilities and other energy services partners.

New features include a “24x7” analysis which reveals the impact from equipment which is never turned off. This is often much larger than facility managers realize. In one study EnergyAi™ found that the 24x7 load for a municipal building comprised over 60% of annual electricity use, and reducing this by just 10% would save about $56,000 per year.

The updated “Load Analysis Report” highlights the most common usage profiles for a facility – when does a load usually “wake up” and “go to sleep”, when does it peak, is there a weekday vs. weekend pattern? This tells facility managers if their buildings are operating as expected. A recent analysis for an office building found that over 90% of Saturdays and Sundays in the past year had a 12 hour “bump” in electric demand starting between 8am-9am. A simple controls change eliminated the bump and will save about $6,000 per year.

“What hasn’t changed is our service model” noted EnergyAi™ founder Dave Krinkel. “You download historic meter data from your utility or any other source, send it to us, and we send the Load Analysis Report to you. New clients are surprised by how much actionable information is hidden in data they already have. We’ve also kept the low price unchanged, so the report is affordable even for organizations with small energy bills.” Recent EnergyAi™ clients have ranged from a church to an aluminum casting factory.
