Engenuity's Tracy and Kim Markie Win Arizona Small Business Development Center "Success Award"

[Chandler, AZ – February 21, 2008] –The Arizona Small Business Development Center (AzSBDC), awarded Tracy and Kim Markie of Engenuity Systems, a “Success Award” in an intimate reception hosted at the Heard Museum in Phoenix on February 13, 2008.

The Markie’s nomination was sponsored by John Henry Smith, CAPP (Comprehensive Action Plan Plus) Manager, an organization directed by the AzSBDC and Maricopa Community Colleges. The award honors not only the entrepreneurial success of the couple, it also recognizes the positive impact the company has had on their community and Arizona’s economy.

Mr. Smith was also a counselor for Mr. Markie in the AAAME (Academy for the Advancement of Small, Minority, and Women Owned Enterprises) program for two years, which he completed in 2007. Mr. Smith commended Mr. Markie’s business acumen, “Tracy has astutely capitalized on the resources available from the SBDC. He leveraged the tools which enabled him to ramp up his business planning in a remarkable amount of time. He’s an inspiration to any small business owner.”

Mr. Markie expressed his gratitude for the support that AzSBDC provided saying, “SBDC counseling provided Engenuity with an ‘outside’ view of our company that helped to keep us balanced and functional. They were also able to give us real examples of other companies experiencing the same growing pains as us – and the results of those examples influenced much of our strategic planning.”

The “Success Award” marks the first major honor for Engenuity in 2008. Last year, the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce bestowed the “2007 Small Business of the Year” and “2007 Top Ten Small Business” awards to Engenuity. In 2006, the company garnered recognition from the Arizona Small Business Association as a finalist for the “50 Arizona Companies to Watch” award. Other prestigious recognition includes the “2007 LONMARK® Visionary Award,” the “LONMARK® Associate Award and Most Valuable Contribution,” “Buildy Finalist” at the 2004 and 2005 BuilConn trade shows, and Echelon’s “Top Performer” recognition for three consecutive years.
