Amcor PET Packaging is “Connected with Kepware”

Portland, ME – February 25, 2009, Kepware Technologies, the leader in communications for automation, announces successfully implementation at Amcor PET Packaging, the leading manufacturer of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic packaging for the global beverage, food and non-food industries, with over 60 manufacturing sites in 12 countries. Kepware technology synchronized real time manufacturing data to be available throughout the entire enterprise, between the geographically diverse manufacturing plants, and their corporate office located in Michigan.

Kepware connectivity of diverse pieces of equipment into a single network was a key reason decision point. Kepware provided a cost-effective solution supporting Amcor applications as well as a user configurable protocol server: UCON (user-configurable protocol server) for special applications. Recognizing that new applications would likely be implemented and manufacturing needs would change, Amcor PET required a flexible solution able to grow as operations expanded.

Currently there are 10 plants utilizing Kepware solutions with plans to further standardize Amcor PET facilities in North America.

Simple integration with Wonderware Suitelink Protocol plus the ability to support Siemens and Allen Bradley applications secured Kepware for OPC connectivity solutions at Amcor. Two copies of KepwareEX run on a HP Clustered Server running Oracle where Kepware provides the interface to the plant-floor automation. Apriso/SAP system also run an Oracle database facilitating automatic tracking of the product workflow from finished goods inventory to product delivered to the adjacent customer facility via AGVs.

The Kepware solution exceeds new demands resulting from integrations and monitoring of Amcor expanded operational facilities becoming the choice of automation software.
