Securing Buildings News

Billerica, MA, September 2006 – GE-Sensing takes moisture monitoring to the next level with the launch of the simple and cost effective Protimeter HygroTrac, a wireless system for monitoring environmental conditions remotely in buildings. HygroTrac is ideal for long- and short-term monitoring in buildings and facilities at risk for moisture-related problems that can lead to property damage and mold growth.

“We are expanding our traditional hand-held range of moisture meters into the whole new area of remote live monitoring,” said Chris Ranwell, product manager at GE Sensing. “This is exciting progress in this area and it’ll help our customers monitor their facilities remotely, saving them costly site visits.”

Catching moisture intrusion problems early can prevent decay and mold, which are associated with health risks to building occupants and damage to building contents. The new HygroTrac, in addition, can be used for environmental monitoring of moisture-sensitive materials and products for quality control or temperature and humidity stability. The HygroTrac system will also provide early warning of conditions outside user-set parameters.

contemporary Small HygroTrac wireless sensors are installed throughout a facility to monitor relative humidity, temperature and moisture content. Readings are transmitted to the data acquisition gateway connected to a dedicated and secure web server via Ethernet or phone line. A single gateway can receive data from up to 600 sensors that can be installed in a 150- to 400-foot area. Data can be viewed live on a web site and thresholds can be set by the user to provide alarm warnings sent by email or text message.

Data gathered from the sensors is easily managed using the secure web site, which offers tools to help users automatically compile comprehensive reports and graphs for presentation.
