Securing Buildings News

ABU DHABI - The UAE is striding ahead in finding solutions to the effects of global warming by carrying out extensive research on sustainable projects. This was stated by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, at a seminar on ‘Global Warming and Its Solutions’, last Thursday.

“The creation of the green city in Abu Dhabi and solar-powered desiltation plants are examples of how the UAE is becoming a world leader in new technology innovations,” he pointed out.

Control Solutions, Inc “The UAE is in the forefront of providing solutions to the world and the Middle East. We should capitalise on the abundant natural source of solar energy available in the region,” he stressed. “Masdar in Abu Dhabi is also playing a leading role in the alternative energy resources through creative applications.”

Ray Noble, Director of UK-based company Solar BIPV, which provides solutions in solar electric roofing systems, said, “Global warming is growing across the world and by 2050, around 200 million people will be affected. As of now, around two billion people all over the world don’t have access to electricity. Sustainable and renewable designs are the solutions to reduce the temperature and carbon dioxide levels. The UAE has plenty of solar energy which can be used to generate a hefty amount of energy.”

“Whatever energy is generated during the day could be used at night. Saving of energy in a particular building constructed on principles of green building might differ from one project to another. In the begining, it might conserve around 30 per cent of the energy, but later it could save more. But that depends on the kind of project we are going to install,” Noble explained.
