Constellation Energy’s subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy (CNE), signed a renewable power purchase agreement with the new InterContinental Chicago O’Hare Hotel.
Agreement highlights
CNE will secure 4,475 megawatt hours of Green-e certified wind renewable energy certificates (RECs) to match the hotel’s energy usage for one year. RECs represent the environmental attributes of one MWh (megawatt hour) of generation. The REC purchase is equal to avoiding an estimated 3,479 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions which is equivalent to saving more than 390,000 gallons of gasoline annually and removing 637 cars from the road.
By purchasing RECs, companies are investing in the operation and development of
facilities that generate renewable energy. RECs also enable companies to adjust
their emissions from the purchase of electricity, which means RECs can be used
against electricity related emissions to reduce greenhouse gases.
CNE sustainability products
CNE offers a suite of sustainable solutions including demand response programs and renewable energy resources. CNE’s sustainable energy solutions are made up of wind, solar, biomass, landfill and hydroelectric resources.
