Imagining Generative AI in the Automated Building World

The building world is full of devices generating data with building operations creating more data and all that is fed to the AI. As of now it’s all been training data for Machine Learning to create AI for energy optimization and optimized building management with the promise of personalization. With Generative AI, the promise is this chatting AI or AI generates visual images but those also need data to be fed by companies. It’s in the early stages and we haven’t gotten the tools to feed our building data to Generative AI.  I believe that more than the lack of tools, it is calling for our imagination for use cases where we could utilize such an AI.

We have compared Autonomous Vehicles to Autonomous Buildings in the past and left aspiring for personalization in the building with an autonomous AI.

What would such an AI do for buildings? ChatGPT3 is showing us a Q&A interface mimicking humans and engaging us in conversation. What would such a chatbot do for a building? I did an exercise about this at my AIX design for Master in UX design students to design an AI user interface for ChatGPT for hospital stakeholders. We can extend that to an office building or an apartment or an airport. It goes back to your vision of personalization AI for people in the building. What I would chat with a ChatGPT3 building would be different from what you would ask it. The same goes for our customers and realtors and building managers.
