Sinclair: Christoph, Can you let give us an update of your current activities and what we can expect at the Connectivity Week.

Vogel: Thank you Ken. Since December last year I am working as a management consultant in the CleanTech industry with focus on small companies and start-ups in the energy management and new technologies space. I am looking forward to the Connectivity Week to learn about the newest trends in the industry. An important annual event for me.

This year I will be hosting the panel session “Mapping the Future of Building Automation” which is integrated in the track “Building a Smart Building Business”. In today’s environment buildings are getting into a new level of smartness through new technologies like e.g. intelligent sensors, wireless, IT or automation. We have left the protocol discussion finally behind us. Additionally, energy management becomes an essential part of more integrated system offerings which include more communication and demand response capabilities as well. The BAS companies have already strengthened their portfolio with acquisitions and more investments are on the horizon. Linking the demand side to the generation side. i.e. smart consumption meets smart grid, is being realized. I will illustrate those changes, the impact on the competitive and systems landscape and then discuss with the panel their various strategies and outlooks.

contemporary Sinclair:  Thank you – see you in a couple of weeks at Connectivity Week in Santa Clara, California.

Vogel: Here is a brief summary of the session: http://www.connectivityweek.com/2011/#session_2352

We will look to the future of Building Automation Systems from two main questions:
-    What is the future role of Building Automation Systems (BAS) in light of real time communication with the generation side?
-    How will we define and manage automatically the energy procurement process?

We will identify key characteristics that is driving two main convergence trend: IT with BAS integration and the expansion and conversion of Energy Management Systems (EMS) which includes financial systems, further HVAC integration and intelligent systems (devices). Trends, developments and future directions will be reviewed, discussed and analyzed in this lively session.
