Leaders in smart grid interoperability recognized by the GridWise Architecture Council

Individuals advance tomorrow’s electricity system

SANTA CLARA, Calif.,—The GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC) has honored two individuals for advancing openness in the smart electric power system of the future.

Recipients of the 2009 GridWise Applied Awards are Richard Tucker, developer of the “Tucker Tables” – a broadly accepted advanced meter information model and Paul De Martini, leader of Southern California Edison’s smart grid activities. 

“With an elevated awareness of smart grid issues in the nation because of the recent political climate,” said Ron Ambrosio, GWAC Chairman, “it is important to credit those who have already demonstrated an understanding of how the GridWise vision can be applied to real solutions.”

The awards of recognition and appreciation were presented during ConnectivityWeek in Santa Clara, Calif.

Richard Tucker has been a leader in the development of ANSI C12.19, a standard also known as the “Tucker Tables”. The standard includes one of the most broadly accepted advanced meter information models addressing the syntactic and semantic levels of the GWAC context-setting framework for interoperability.  

Paul De Martini is Vice President of Southern California Edison’s Advanced Technologies organization. De Martini has employed an open and interoperable approach in developing Edison’s smart grid design, and sharing learnings and results for others’ benefit. He also has encouraged Edison’s vendors to be a part of the open process. 

About the GridWise Architecture Council

The GridWise Architecture Council was convened in 2004 by the Department of Energy with support from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. As a volunteer council, the GWAC includes practitioners and leaders with broad-based knowledge and expertise in power, information technology, telecommunications, financial systems and other fields who are working together toward a coordinated GridWise vision—the transformation of the nation's energy system into a rich, collaborative network filled with decision-making information exchange and market-based opportunities.
