Constellation Energy’s subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy, was selected by the Defense Energy Support Center (DESC) to provide demand response services to both defense and civilian federal government agencies it serves domestically. DESC provides the Department of Defense and other government agencies with comprehensive energy solutions.
Constellation NewEnergy’s federal customers, who commit to curtail energy use by shedding load or turning to on-site generation for a specific period of time when called upon, will earn a credit for committing to the program. Once enrolled, participants may earn ongoing credits for making such a commitment, as well as energy utilization credits for actually reducing load upon request.
As an authorized demand response vendor for the Department of Defense and other civilian agencies served by DESC, Constellation NewEnergy will now add demand response programs to the suite of innovative solutions that it currently offers to the federal government. Other offerings include electricity and gas products, renewable energy resources, and carbon footprinting services.
Constellation Energy (http://www.constellation.com),
a FORTUNE 125 company with 2007 revenues of $21 billion, is the nation’s largest
competitive supplier of electricity to large commercial and industrial customers
and the nation’s largest wholesale power seller. Constellation Energy also
manages fuels and energy services on behalf of energy intensive industries and
utilities. It owns a diversified fleet of 83 generating units located throughout
the United States, totaling approximately 9,000 megawatts of generating
capacity. The company delivers electricity and natural gas through the Baltimore
Gas and Electric Company (BGE), its regulated utility in Central Maryland.
QUOTES
“Participating in demand response programs is a win-win opportunity for the government and taxpayers,” said Andrew Singer, senior vice president for major accounts, Constellation Energy. “These programs alleviate stress on the energy grid to help reduce regional blackouts, and agencies can help save taxpayer dollars by receiving additional resources that can be invested into further energy efficiency and environmental measures.”
“For several years, Constellation Energy has served as an energy supplier for the public sector,” said Larry Fratis, contracting officer for the DESC. “Now, we look forward to continuing to work with them as the government becomes more energy efficient through demand response programs.”
