Agreement will provide federal agencies an unmatched team to solve their energy dilemmas and meet their small business goals

DALLAS – October 2, 2014 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, and Utility System Solutions, Inc. (US2), a turnkey construction and intelligent energy monitoring solutions company, today announced that the Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved an agreement between the two organizations under the SBA’s Mentor-Protégé Program. The partnership will make it easier for federal agencies to take advantage of the mutual strengths of both organizations as they work to solve key energy challenges and meet their small business goals.

The Small Business Act requires federal agencies to set aside at least 23 percent of contracts for small businesses, enabling these businesses to more fairly compete for federal contracts. In addition, the SBA created the 8(a) Business Development Mentor-Protégé Program to help small, disadvantaged businesses be competitive, achieve entrepreneurial success and contribute to the strength and vigor of the economy by partnering with larger, successful firms. These mentor-protégé agreements achieve a win-win-win objective for federal agencies, small businesses and larger organizations alike.

“The Mentor-Protégé Program demonstrates our organizations’ commitment to helping federal agencies address their energy efficiency needs by giving them access to an unmatched combination of experience, expertise and solutions from both Schneider Electric and US2,” said Jeff Sherman, Director of Schneider Electric’s Federal Energy and Sustainability group. “We are delighted to be partnered with US2 as they enhance our offering with federal contracting and turnkey construction expertise, while also helping federal agencies achieve their small business goals.”

The Mentor-Protégé Program provides the structure for US2 to leverage the strengths of Schneider Electric through specialized training, joint marketing and sharing of corporate best practices. US2 customers will have access to Schneider Electric’s resources for support of projects that require bonding over $5 million. US2 customers will also benefit from Schneider Electric’s expertise in advanced metering systems, power management, building automation and energy savings performance contracts. The partnership will benefit Schneider Electric’s customers as well, who will gain reliable turnkey installation expertise from US2 which has performed more than 150 turnkey projects for federal and private end users. Both organizations currently serve the federal government, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Department of Energy (DOE), the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Department of Defense (DOD).

David Shutler, US2 President and CEO said, “Our Mentor Protégé team combines Schneider Electric’s expertise as a world leader in energy management, with US2’s expertise in turnkey construction on energy efficiency projects. This team gives federal agencies access to world class products and services, with flawless installation. We believe we can also make a contribution to the Schneider Electric team, while we grow from our relationship. US2 is honored to be partnering with Schneider Electric.”

PlantPROCORE Schneider Electric helps the federal government solve their energy dilemmas with solutions and support at every stage of the energy management lifecycle – from measurement and monitoring to strategic planning and energy procurement services to control systems, infrastructure upgrades and continuous management and reporting. US2 designs, develops and implements energy efficient retrofit strategies for aging government facilities. US2 is certified as a service-disabled veteran owned small business (SDVOSB), a veteran owned small business (VOSB), a small disadvantaged business (SDB) and a small business (SB).
