Securing Buildings News

SAN JOSE, Calif., October 20, 2014 – Cypress Envirosystems today announced that it has been selected by the University of Toronto for its prestigious Green Ribbon Award highlighting extensive work in improving the efficiency of buildings throughout its campus with the Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat (WPT). The University recognizes outstanding achievements in campus sustainability annually by awarding the Green Ribbon to only one external partner, in addition to students, faculty and staff. The University of Toronto’s Green Ribbon is the latest in a series of key customer and industry awards that Cypress Envirosystems has received. Cypress Envirosystems and its products have also been awarded the Building Operating Management’s (BOM) Top Products Award, Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration (ACHR) News Gold Award, Association of Energy Engineers’ (AEE) Best Emerging Technology Award, Building Green’s Top-10 Products Award, and many others.

The University of Toronto’s Director of Sustainability and Operations, Paul Leitch, noted “Cypress Envirosystems’ Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat solution is a key tool in meeting our conservation and sustainability goals. Its unique pneumatic-to-digital design gives us the ability to modernize the HVAC controls in many more buildings than would otherwise be possible.” Since 2012, the University has deployed over 600 WPTs to buildings on the Toronto campus, reducing the energy use in those building by approximately 30%. Ron Swail, the Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Services, said “we successfully piloted Cypress’s Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat before scaling up in our largest buildings on campus. This solution has been proven to be robust, reliable and delivers on its promised benefits.”

“We are thrilled to be acknowledged by the University of Toronto with their Green Ribbon Award. This type of customer recognition is the highest praise we could hope for as it shows that our solution meets a critical need for our clients,” said Harry Sim, CEO of Cypress Envirosystems. In addition to the University of Toronto, dozens of universities, hospitals, commercial buildings, and government facilities throughout Canada and the US have adopted the Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat since its introduction in 2008 as a strategic solution for saving energy, reducing maintenance costs, and improving occupant comfort.

contemporary About Cypress Envirosystems, Inc.
Cypress Envirosystems was founded by Cypress Semiconductor (NASDAQ: CY) in 2007 to develop low-cost retrofit solutions for the industrial and commercial building markets. Cypress Envirosystems’ mission is to save energy and improve productivity in existing plants and buildings. It has developed a portfolio of state-of-the-art non-invasive, wireless technologies to minimize disruption and cost, delivering payback of 18 months or less. Their product portfolio consists of the Wireless Pneumatic Thermostat (WPT), Wireless Steam Trap Monitor (WSTM), Wireless Gauge Reader (WGR), Wireless Transducer Reader (WTR), Wireless Freezer Monitor (WFM), and the equipment required for the wireless infrastructure. The WPT retrofits existing pneumatic thermostats to deliver the benefits of direct digital control (DDC) at a significantly lower cost and without disruption to building occupants. The WSTM remotely monitors steam traps and alerts staff of failures to avoid energy loss and damage to assets. The WGR and WTR can extract data from any existing gauge, transducer or sensor to facilitate Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx), efficient use of consumables, and alarming of systems that are out of tolerance. The WFM monitors low-temperature research freezers for predictive analytics and alarming failures so the loss of their contents can be avoided. The entire portfolio is listed on GSA Schedule and is available for purchase through GSA Advantage. Visit Cypress Envirosystems at www.CypressEnvirosystems.com.
