In my early days of building automation at Johnson Controls when I first came out of a product development meeting; I asked my boss what the heck was SMOP which they kept mentioning. I already had hardware & software design experience from my previous job but this was a new term. Since I had worked in an Italian restaurant while going to school I immediately was thinking Sausage Mushroom Onion Pepperoni pizza when people said this in the meeting. He informed me it meant Small Matter of Programming….. I still eat pizza and software still has issues that are sometimes a Small Matter of Programming and sometimes a Large Matter of Programming, LMOP! That’s why reviews, simulations, and field testing continue to be vital for successful projects.
